First of all, let’s define what mattress protectors are. Mattress protectors are bedding pieces that, as the name suggests, help to protect a mattress. These are laid over the mattress to cover the entire mattress are. These are different from fitted sheets as these are made from other materials and are definitely thicker than a fitted sheet. Mattress protectors protect the mattress in three general ways. One, it helps shield the mattress from dust and other dirt particles. Two, it also cushions the springs of the mattress extending the mattress’ life span and preserving its original quality. Three, it is like an armour of the mattress against any spillage.

Since kids are bound to be a little rowdy and messy, given those three general purposes, you can see why kids need mattress protectors more than anyone else. Here are some scenarios that your kids would probably do to their mattress. First, they will play on it. They will put various toys on it and even jump on it to pretend that they are flying or just because it feels fun. The mattress protector will help strengthen the mattress as it cushions the jumping and also absorbs the dust particles that your child may bring in from playing outside. Second, kids are still young and they can make mistakes and also can have little accidents as they get used to potty training. Spillages from drinks that they bring in to their rooms and those little potty training accidents will not go directly to the mattress. Instead, there will be a first line of defence here which is a lot easier to clean up. We all know how hard it is to clean up the mattress. Having a mattress protector keeps the mattress clean and more than that, protectors can be easily taken out and washed.

More than just a safeguard and aid for the mattress, these protectors also provide an added comfort for your child as they sleep. Mattress protectors as I have said are made from thicker materials than a fitted sheet. The most common ones are fleece and quilted cotton. Any of these materials can give an extra soft cushion that will feel good for your children as they sleep on it. Remember, uninterrupted sleep is important for growing kids. In addition, these materials also provide additional warmth in their bed making it cosy especially during the winter season.
